Meet the Principals

Irwin R. Cohen, Founder/President

After having received an engineering degree from the prestigious Pratt Institute, Mr. Irwin Cohen was awarded an MBA from Hofstra University, in New York, with majors in management, finance, and computers.  Irwin then spent some time as an executive with a major electronics corporation. 

In 1979, Irwin recognized an industry need for a highly specialized property management business.  Drawing on his engineering, contractual, and business expertise, Irwin began A. Michael Tyler Realty as a family-owned and operated business. 

Irwin takes special pride in maintaining thorough communications with virtually every board member and shareholder represented by the firm, and he has been credited with developing some of the industries’ most innovative crisis management procedures.

Jay Cohen, Vice President/Directors of Operations

Mr. Jay Cohen is an award-winning residential property manager with extensive experience in portfolio, on-site, and asset management.  Licensed in both real estate and insurance brokerage, Jay brings a truly diverse skill set to the firm.  His areas of expertise include asset management, contract negotiation, union relations, major capital project administration, property staff supervision, and the cultivation of productive board/owner/resident relations.

A career professional, Jay has been managing residential properties since 1988.  He began his profession at a small residential management firm, where he served in a variety of industry positions with increasing responsibility and authority. There, he honed his financial and construction management skills during a large-scale renovation of a multi-housing development.  Mr. Cohen later moved on to positions within several of the most highly respected management companies in metropolitan New York, which includes his current position as Director of Operations.

Specific career highlights - negotiating outsourced emergency contracts in response to severe water damage of a property, and overseeing financial adjustments (including mortgage refinances) resulting in significant cost savings for several properties - are illustrative of Jay's sucessful management style.  He is also credited with measurable improvements in building staff performance and accountability.  Additionally, Jay served as Senior On-site Management Executive to a 1,000+ unit cooperative community during a management transition.

Recognized for his performance, Jay Cohen has been the recipient of industry awards for building maintenance, projects and improvement, quality of life, and others.  He is a licensed real estate broker, P & C Insurance Broker and holds a degree in banking, insurance, and real estate.

Jay resides in Long Island and enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His pastimes include golfing, fishing, scuba diving, and traveling.

Rochelle H. Cohen, Co-founder, VP and CFO

Having taken interior design courses at the NY Institute of Technology, Rochelle progressed quickly to a management role in a leading decorating retail chain where she managed a number of departments and assisted the corporate office in setting up new facilities. Rochelle went on to help form A. Michael Tyler Realty Corp. and assisted a number of clients in the interior design and project management of common area upgrades to their properties. Rochelle is an integral part of the organization from policy formulation to financial management and operating efficiency.  She is a highly respected member of the Real Estate community, having earned the admiration and respect of the professionals and contractors with whom A. Michael Tyler Realty Corp. does business.
